About Me
Hi, I’m Lisa OKeefe
I am a widow, and for most of my daughter’s life, I was a single mother. I have different memberships in groups including, but not limited to:
- VFW Post 478 Auxiliary
- Czechoslovakian Moravian Club
- Polish Community Center
- UNICO
- St. Mary’s
- Republican Women Women’s Club
- Friends of the Broome County Library
- Farmer Veteran Coalition Associate Member
I have been active in the community since I was 14 when my father ran for elected office. Both my parents were born and raised in the area and have remained active and committed to making this a better place to live. It is from their efforts and beliefs that I developed the same core values of integrity and a strong ethical background firmly cemented in transparency. This principle was further accentuated when while still in high school I was afforded the opportunity to work for both the Republican and Democratic Parties so I could better understand their platforms and how they strive to make a difference. As a Senate Session Assistant, I was afforded the distinct pleasure of meeting with and listening to the concerns of residents. Based on a concern I heard repeatedly, I crafted a bill to protect child actors that is still in effect to this day.
As a proud graduate of Binghamton Central and Broome Community College with an AA in Journalism and SUNY Stony Brook with an MA in Teaching and as a former teacher at the middle and high school levels, as well as, an Adjunct Professor I have a unique grasp of the role our schools will play in the future and understand the need to provide resources for our teachers and students.
I have a BA in Political Science from SUNY Oswego and a BS in Law from Saratoga University School of Law and I have held elected office, so, I understand that the only way to effectuate positive change in government is to be willing to reach across the aisle and work together for a better outcome.
It’s because of my experiences and the values instilled in me that I feel I would be the best candidate to represent you.
